Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, also the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has emphasized the critical role of digitalization in economic independence of Ghana.
Speaking during the launch of the CitizenApp at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel on October 7, 2024, Bawumia asserted that digital growth is essential for propelling the nation into a prosperous future.
“As the world enters the fourth industrial revolution, it has become obvious that no economic strategy can succeed without a strong digital foundation. In key areas such as public administration, trade, education, financial inclusion and healthcare.”
Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam who also joined Bawumia on stage, highlighted the transformative potential of the CitizenApp in ensuring transparency and accountability in government transactions.
He asserted that the app will revolutionize tax administration, stating, “One of the key areas where the CitizenApp will make an immediate and profound impact is in tax administration.”
Adam explained that the previous complexities of tax compliance, which often required individuals and businesses to navigate multiple platforms and physically visit offices, would be simplified through the app, fostering a more efficient revenue collection process.
Adam further emphasized the importance of the app in reducing financial mismanagement and corruption, declaring, “With the CitizenApp, all government transactions will be fully traceable and accountable.”
This assurance comes as a relief to citizens who have long faced hurdles in interacting with public services.
The CitizenApp according to the government promises to consolidate various government services, allowing users to fill taxes, apply for passports, renew drivers’ licenses, and pay utility bills all in one place, creating a seamless experience for all Ghanaians.
