A United States Immigration Court has adjourned proceedings involving former Ghanaian Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to Monday, 27th April, 2026.
The adjournment follows a hearing, which was held in private on Tuesday, 20th January, 2026 before a U.S. immigration judge in Virginia, after Ofori-Atta’s attorneys successfully petitioned the court to limit public access due to what they described as sensitive issues surrounding the matter.

Ofori-Atta is currently in the custody of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after authorities ruled that he no longer has valid authorization to remain in the United States. His lawyers are challenging aspects of the decision and requested additional time to prepare their case.
Until the next hearing, Ofori-Atta is expected to remain in ICE custody unless the court orders otherwise.
Meanwhile, the outcome of the next court hearing could influence whether Ofori-Atta remains in U.S. custody, is deported, or ultimately extradited to Ghana to answer the charges awaiting him.
