The leader of the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team, DSP Bawah Abdul Jalil, has been removed from his position as investigations continue into an alleged assault case involving him and members of the unit.
DSP Abdul Jalil, together with other officers from the team, is currently under investigation for allegedly assaulting renowned Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama.
The development marks a significant leadership change within the elite police unit, as authorities move to address the allegations and maintain discipline within the service.
A formal handing-over ceremony was held at the National Police Training School on April 7, 2026, to officially mark the transition in leadership.
At the ceremony, DSP Abdul Jalil handed over command responsibilities to the newly appointed Commander, Superintendent Augustine Dawson Amoah. He will be supported by three other senior officers to ensure the continued operations of the team.
In his farewell remarks, DSP Abdul Jalil called on personnel to cooperate fully with the new leadership, stressing the importance of unity and professionalism in sustaining the effectiveness of the unit.
Superintendent Amoah, in his acceptance address, assured officers of his commitment to strong and effective leadership. He also urged members of the team to uphold discipline, unity, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The outcome of the ongoing investigations into the alleged assault is expected to determine the next course of action regarding DSP Abdul Jalil and the officers involved.
