The Electoral Commission (EC) has annouced a sudden update regarding the ballot statistics for the upcoming 2024 general elections, which will impact 20 specific polling stations.
This revision necessitates the printing of additional ballot booklets to accommodate adjustments in ballot paper allocation, reflecting the EC’s commitment to ensuring a smooth electoral process.
The announcement was made in a press release on Monday, October 28, emphasizing the importance of accuracy and transparency in the electoral framework.
This decision arises from thorough evaluations conducted by District Registration Review Officers (DRROs) and subsequent rulings by High Courts, aimed at rectifying discrepancies observed during the voter registration process.
The changes are not only a response to judicial feedback but also a proactive measure stemming from a recent re-exhibition of the 2024 Provisional Voters Register.
This exercise enabled citizens and political parties to verify voter information, thus identifying any inaccuracies that could potentially impact election day.
In its press release, the EC has stressed the importance of collaboration in these revisions.
The statement underlined, “The Electoral Commission announces for the information of the General Public that, following the implementation of the decisions of the District Registration Review Officers (DRROs) and the High Courts as well as the revisions made after the Re-Exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register, there have been slight revisions to the 2024 Ballot Statistics submitted to the Political Parties and the Printing Firms.”
The EC further reiterated that the updated ballot statistics, including details of the affected polling stations, have been shared with relevant stakeholders to ensure comprehensive awareness and preparation ahead of the elections.
