The Executive Director of the Ghana Institute of Governance and Security, David Agbey, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of attempting to manipulate the electoral process.
Speaking on ABC News GH, Agbey expressed concern over the EC’s handling of electoral results, particularly in the Eastern Region.
He pointed to a situation in Akwatia where elections were declared at the collation center, and noted discrepancies in the handling of materials, which were initially supposed to come from Kibi but ended up being brought to Tessano.
“We all need to go to the drawing board by engaging the Electoral Commissioner to come out very clean that redeclaration of electoral results is something that is not known as far as elections are concerned,” Agbey stated.
He further criticized the lack of clear communication from the EC to political parties, emphasizing the need for transparency in the election results process.
“Election results must be declared at an open place where everyone can see that a particular person has won the election,” he added.
Agbey also called for accountability, saying, “Those found culpable must be prosecuted,” and urged the EC to ensure fairness in the electoral process.
He concluded by stressing that redeclaring results was an unacceptable practice that Ghanaians should not tolerate.
“The EC should do what must be done to ensure that there is fairness as far as the election process is concerned.”
