The Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended the Pusiga District Director following allegations of illegal voter transfers.
Preliminary investigations exposed a breach of protocol, where voters’ photographs were allegedly used to transfer registrations without their knowledge or consent.
Samuel Tettey, EC Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, confirmed the district director’s suspension, emphasizing, “We have suspended the officer and we are investigating; those who are involved will be sacked.”
The suspension follows a recent voter exhibition and transfer exercise aimed at verifying voter details ahead of the December 2024 elections.
The exercise, however, revealed an alarming scheme to manipulate voter registrations in Pusiga, with numerous voters claiming they had not initiated any transfers, despite their names being relocated to different polling stations.
The EC’s swift response reflects its commitment to maintaining electoral integrity as the country prepares for a critical election.
Tettey clarified that legitimate voter transfers require a strict process, including physical presence at the district office, biometric verification, and the issuance of a new voter ID card.
The ongoing investigation is expected to uncover further details, and the EC has vowed to take stringent actions against all involved in the illegal transfers, sending a strong message against electoral fraud.
