The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has officially announced that it will begin receiving nominations for the upcoming elections for President and Members of Parliament from Monday, September 9th to Friday, September 13th, 2024.
This move is in accordance with Regulations 6, 7, and 8 of the Public Election Regulations 2020 (C.I 127).
Candidates aspiring to the Presidential seat are mandated to pay a fee of One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC100,000) when submitting their nomination forms.
In a bid to promote inclusivity, the EC has set a reduced fee of Seventy-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC75,000) for female candidates and persons with disabilities.
“Candidates vying for the position of President will be required to make a payment of One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC100,000) at the time of submitting their Nomination Forms.
Payment shall be by Banker’s draft and addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. Female Candidates and Persons with Disabilities are required to pay Seventy-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC75,000),” stated the EC.
The Commission has also outlined that completed Presidential Nomination Forms must be signed by the candidate and endorsed by no fewer than two registered voters from each District Assembly.
