The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially declared Faustina Akurugu Elikplim, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, as the Member of Parliament-elect for Dome Kwabenya.
The announcement resolves a contentious dispute between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the constituency’s election results.
During an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, December 31, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa confirmed the declaration, emphasizing that the electoral process had been conclusively finalized.
“Today, we are pleased to announce that the proceedings and collation at the Dome Kwabenya Constituency have come to a close. It has gone full circle, and we are convinced beyond any shadow of a doubt that the outcome reflects the will of the people,” she stated.
According to the re-collation results, Faustina Akurugu Elikplim received 50,967 votes, narrowly defeating the NPP’s Mike Oquaye Junior, who secured 50,669 votes.
The EC’s decision cancels a planned re-run at an outstanding polling station and solidifies Elikplim’s victory, allowing her to prepare for her role as MP for Dome Kwabenya.
