A final field poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics ahead of Ghana’s 2024 elections shows former President John Dramani Mahama leading the race with 51.1% of committed voters.
Mahama, the candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is ahead of his main rival, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who trails at 37.3%.
Independent candidates Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten and Nana Kwame Bediako hold 4.1% and 6.2%, respectively, while other candidates account for 1.3%. Voter apathy remains a significant challenge for the NPP, with 16% of their supporters potentially sitting out the election.
The poll highlights a strong showing for Mahama among floating voters, with a 31-point advantage over Bawumia (54% to 23%), as well as a significant lead among first-time voters.
“Mahama’s lead in key demographics and regions reflects voter dissatisfaction with the current administration,” noted a Global InfoAnalytics spokesperson.
Mahama also continues to expand his regional dominance, leading in 12 regions, including Greater Accra and the Bono region.
Bawumia’s campaign faces additional pressure with a drop in support among Muslim voters, a demographic seen as crucial to his electoral chances.
As the December election nears, economic concerns dominate voter priorities.
The economy was cited as the most pressing issue by 70% of respondents, followed by jobs and education.
President Nana Akufo-Addo’s approval rating remains low at 36%, with 62% of voters believing the country is heading in the wrong direction.
Mahama’s growing regional and demographic strength, combined with voter discontent over economic conditions, positions him as the front-runner, while Bawumia and the NPP grapple with internal challenges and competition from independent candidates.
