Election Watch Ghana, has raised serious concerns over reports of widespread vote buying ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s upcoming January 31 elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 29, 2026, the election monitoring organisation claims that some candidates are allocating substantial resources, reportedly between GH₵150 million and GH₵200 million in cash, to influence delegates’ decisions.

According to Election Watch Ghana, these lavish offers include hotel accommodations, transportation, feeding, and per diems for delegates.
“This trend threatens the integrity of our democratic process,” the statement warned, adding that “Candidates with deep pockets are undermining the will of the people, and such practices compromise the fairness of the election. They also jeopardize the unity and stability of both the party and the nation as a whole.”
Election Watch Ghana is urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to take immediate action to address these irregularities and ensure a level playing field for all candidates. Citizens are encouraged to report any instances of vote buying to the EC’s toll-free number: 0800 324 324.
“The future of our democracy is at stake,” the statement cautioned, calling on all stakeholders to play their part in protecting the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process and ensuring a free, fair and transparent election.
