The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned Ghanaians to prepare for heavy rains, lightning, and thunderstorms from now until May.
Speaking in an interview with ABCNewsGh, Principal Meteorologist Felicity Ahafianyo urged citizens to take necessary precautions, including inspecting aging buildings and trees that could pose risks during storms.
“From now till May, we should be watching out for rains with wind, lightning, and thunder over any part of the country,” she cautioned.
She advised homeowners to seek expert assessments for buildings over 15 years old to check for structural weaknesses. Additionally, she called on the Ministry of Forestry to assist in identifying and removing aged trees that could become hazardous during storms.
On billboard installations, Ahafianyo emphasized the need to adhere to standardized measurements to prevent them from toppling in strong winds.
GMet continues to monitor weather patterns and urges the public to stay updated with forecasts to ensure safety during the rainy season.
