Director of Grievances and Negotiations at the Fair Wages and Salary Commission, Prof. Charles Adabo Oppong, has urged the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana to rescind their strike action.
He emphasized that the government has demonstrated a commitment to addressing their concerns regarding improved working conditions and outstanding allowance payments.
Prof. Adabo Oppong expressed surprise at the decision to strike, given recent discussions with the association’s leadership.
Mortuary workers across Ghana began their industrial action on September 26, 2024, due to frustrations over the government’s failure to meet their demands.
This strike reflects deep-seated issues surrounding their working environment and overdue allowances that have remained unaddressed.
The association’s decision adds on the urgency of their plight, as they seek immediate solutions to their grievances.
Speaking to ABC News Ghana, Prof. Adabo Oppong noted that miscommunication often leads to such strikes and urged the workers to prioritize dialogue.
“When you go on strike, the issues must be resolved,” he stated, advocating for open discussions to resolve conflicts.
He stressed the importance of coming to the discussion table before resorting to strike action, unless the issue has been declared a deadlock.
