Political scientist Dr. Samuel Afriyie from Kumasi Technical University has criticized the Attorney General’s approach to high-profile corruption cases, urging the government to prioritize due process over media engagements.
Speaking on ABC Morning Show, Dr. Afriyie questioned why the Attorney General was publicly discussing cases that had not yet reached court.
He explained that leaders must act responsibly and at the right time. All illegally acquired state funds must be recovered, but the legal process must be respected.
Dr. Afriyie warned against the Attorney General taking the same approach as the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), arguing that excessive media discussions could compromise legal proceedings.
He also highlighted concerns over investigators abusing their authority and stressed that Ghana’s legal institutions must operate professionally and transparently.
He urged that authorities ensure government agencies conduct thorough and fair investigations. ‘The rule of law must be upheld at all times’ he said.
