A devastating fire has gutted the Suame Post Office Market in the Ashanti Region, destroying more than 300 shops and leaving traders counting huge losses.
The incident, which occurred late Tuesday night, August 26, 2025, swept through the bustling commercial hub and reduced goods worth thousands of cedis to ashes.
The inferno has left scores of victims stranded, with many waking up to the reality of losing their entire livelihoods.
In a statement, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at 11:46 pm and immediately dispatched firefighting teams from Breman, Manhyia, RHQ Substation, and Mamponteng stations to the scene.
The coordinated operation helped contain the flames, although efforts to completely extinguish the fire continued into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The GNFS confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident but noted that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Investigations are underway as authorities assess the extent of the damage, while affected traders appeal for urgent support to recover from the destruction.
