A massive fire has engulfed parts of the Kantamanto market in Accra, with 13 fire tenders from various areas in Greater Accra deployed to contain the blaze.
The fire, which started around 1am at the Kantamanto Railways area, has destroyed several shops, leaving traders in distress.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) initially responded with five fire appliances from Makola, the Greater Accra Regional Headquarters, National Headquarters, Flagstaff House, and Parliament House.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) was also called to cut power supply to the area to assist firefighting efforts.
As of 6am, five hours into the incident, the GNFS personnel were still battling the fire. The cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed, and further details will follow as investigations continue.
