Emmanuel Tetteh, a fisherman known by the aliases “666” and “Escoba,” has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after being found guilty of raping and robbing a woman in front of her two young children at Banana Inn, Accra.
Tetteh, who had previously denied the charges of robbery and rape, was convicted by an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Isaac Addo.
The court sentenced him to a lengthy prison term, considering the premeditated nature of the crime and the fact that he committed the offenses while another case against him was still pending.
The victim, whose identity remains confidential, reported the crime to the police on June 23, 2022. She had fallen asleep on her sofa when Tetteh broke into her home.
Armed with a knife, he threatened her, robbing her of her mobile phone and over GH¢2,000 in cash.
In a shocking act of brutality, Tetteh raped the woman in the presence of her two young daughters, aged three and five years.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, called two witnesses during the trial, while Tetteh’s defense involved his wife.
However, the court noted that Tetteh’s violent actions, which included a slap to the victim when she resisted, were premeditated and heinous.
Tetteh is also serving a six-year sentence for a previous theft, and his actions in this case further highlighted his dangerous criminal tendencies.
