The Ghana Air Force has taken delivery of the first of four Airbus helicopters procured to strengthen its operational capabilities as part of an ongoing modernisation drive within the Ghana Armed Forces.
The newly acquired Airbus H175 helicopter arrived in Accra on Thursday, March 5, 2026, after completing all technical acceptance procedures with its manufacturer, Airbus Helicopters.

The procurement forms part of a broader defence acquisition programme approved by the Parliament of Ghana to enhance the operational readiness and capacity of the military.
The helicopter was ferried from Marignane, in France, where Airbus Helicopters has its production facility. The delivery flight followed a carefully planned route through Spain and parts of North-West Africa, before continuing south along the West African Atlantic coast through several countries before arriving in Ghana.

Officials of the Ghana Armed Forces received the aircraft on arrival, led by the Minister for Finance and Acting Minister for Defence, Cassiel Ato Forson.

The addition of the helicopter is expected to significantly improve the Ghana Air Force’s operational flexibility, particularly in areas such as surveillance, troop movement, search and rescue missions, and emergency response operations.
The acquisition is part of government’s continued efforts to equip the armed forces with modern aviation assets capable of supporting both security operations and humanitarian missions across the country.
