Ghana has secured a US$12.83 million grant from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to fund feasibility studies and detailed designs for major infrastructure projects under the government’s Big Push Programme, including the proposed 37 Military Hospital interchange.

The agreement was signed by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and the AfDB’s outgoing Country Manager in Ghana, Eyerusalem Fasika.

The grant will support extensive feasibility studies, covering full engineering designs, cost estimates, and environmental and social impact assessments for the planned interchange at the 37 Military Hospital, which is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in Accra.

It will also finance feasibility studies and full designs for the redevelopment of four modern markets at Agbogbloshie, Techiman, Sekondi, and Mankessim, alongside comprehensive studies for Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones in the Afram Plains, Nsawam, and Builsa.

Expressing appreciation for the support, Dr. Forson said the assistance was secured “on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana,” and reaffirmed government’s commitment to delivering the projects.

He praised Ms. Fasika’s leadership, noting that “Ghana has secured significant financial resources and technical support from the AfDB through her stewardship.”

Dr. Forson further expressed confidence in the timelines, stating that government is optimistic the feasibility studies will be completed early enough “to allow construction to commence, hopefully by the third quarter.”

In her remarks, Ms. Fasika thanked Ghana for the cooperation extended to the AfDB throughout her tenure, describing the partnership as productive and impactful.

“Together, we have given it our best shot,” she said, while reaffirming the AfDB’s continued commitment to supporting Ghana’s development agenda.
