President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral discussions with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, reaffirming the longstanding partnership between Ghana and South Korea.
The meeting underscored the strong historical ties and shared democratic values that continue to shape relations between the two countries.

Key agreements signed
The talks culminated in the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in maritime security, climate change and digital technology.
Officials say the agreements are expected to deepen collaboration and create new opportunities for joint initiatives between Ghana and South Korea across key sectors.

Shared democratic values
During the discussions, President Mahama noted that both countries share a history of overcoming colonial rule and periods of authoritarian governance to build stable democratic institutions.
He said these common experiences have enabled Ghana and South Korea to work closely on the global stage, particularly within the United Nations, where the two countries often advance similar positions on international issues.

Growing agricultural cooperation
President Mahama also highlighted expanding collaboration in agriculture and agribusiness, particularly through programmes supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
According to him, the initiatives are helping to boost rice production and strengthen food security efforts in Ghana.
Gateway to African trade
The President further pointed to opportunities for deeper economic cooperation through the African Continental Free Trade Area, whose Secretariat is based in Accra.
He noted that Ghana’s strategic position within the continental market offers South Korean companies a platform to expand production and exports across Africa.
Outlook for stronger ties
President Mahama expressed optimism that Ghana’s natural resources and human capital, combined with South Korea’s technological expertise, will continue to drive a mutually beneficial partnership focused on sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
