Sudan’s head coach, Kwesi Appiah, has expressed his disappointment over Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Ghana, a four-time AFCON champion and a consistent presence in the competition for decades, surprisingly missed out on qualification, raising questions about the state of football development in the country.
The Black Stars of Ghana failed to beat Sudan in a double-header encounter during the qualifiers for the 2025 African Cup of Nations and also failed to win a single game.
Speaking in an interview following the tournament draw in Morocco the former Black Stars coach describes Ghana’s inability to qualify as unfortunate.
“When the draw placed Ghana in our group, I did several interviews where I said I hoped both Ghana and Sudan would qualify. It’s unfortunate Ghana couldn’t make it. As a Ghanaian, I’m not happy about that.”
“Football has evolved, and every country needs to prepare well for competitions. I hope Ghana learns from this and comes back stronger in future tournaments,” he told the media team of CAF.
Sudan have been housed in Group E of the AFCON, alongside Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Equatorial Guinea.
Kwesi Appiah will lead Sudan in their quest to advance from a challenging group when the tournament begins on December 21, 2025.
