GoldBod has entered into a GH¢8.4 million agreement with Ghana Water Limited (GWL) to rehabilitate three key water supply systems in the Western and Central Regions, a move aimed at improving access to safe drinking water and promoting environmental sustainability.
The project will focus on restoring the Bonsa, Daboase and Sekyere Heman Water Supply Systems, which have faced prolonged operational difficulties that have affected water delivery to surrounding communities. Upon completion, the rehabilitation is expected to improve the reliability and efficiency of the facilities while providing thousands of residents with better access to potable water.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, said the Board approved the project after carrying out an independent technical assessment of the affected water systems to determine the extent of the challenges and the required interventions.
He explained that the initiative forms part of GoldBod’s broader commitment to responsible mining practices, environmental protection and improving the welfare of communities impacted by mining activities.
Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Adam Mutawakilu, welcomed the partnership, describing GoldBod’s support as a timely intervention that would help restore the production capacity of the three water systems.
According to him, the rehabilitation works will significantly improve water supply and service delivery to the beneficiary communities while helping to safeguard critical public infrastructure.
He added that the collaboration between the two institutions highlights the importance of partnerships in addressing infrastructure challenges and ensuring sustainable access to clean and safe water for affected communities.
