The Ministry of the Interior has declared Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, as statutory public holidays in Ghana, in line with this year’s Easter festivities.
In a statement released on Monday, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak confirmed that the two dates—Good Friday and Easter Monday—will be observed nationwide to allow citizens to partake in the annual religious and cultural celebrations.
The announcement follows the Christian liturgical calendar, which designates the Easter season as a sacred period of reflection, sacrifice, and joy.
“The public is hereby reminded to observe these holidays in accordance with the laws of the country and the appropriate customary practices,” the statement emphasized, urging citizens to celebrate in peace and with respect for national norms.
Good Friday, observed on April 18, commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The solemn occasion is marked by prayer, fasting, and church services.
Easter Monday, falling on April 21, is celebrated the day after Easter Sunday, which signifies the resurrection of Christ. In Ghana, it is typically a day of relaxation, outdoor events, family reunions, and community-based recreational activities.
As Easter remains one of the most widely celebrated holidays in Ghana, the Ministry also issued a word of caution, advising the public to prioritize safety and responsibility throughout the long weekend.
