The government has officially lifted the curfew that had been in place in Binduri Township and surrounding communities in the Upper East Region.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Friday, February 6, and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak. According to the statement, the lifting of the curfew takes immediate effect.
It explained that the move was taken on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council and implemented through an Executive Instrument, after authorities observed an improvement in the security situation. The curfew, the statement noted, was lifted “following peace and security in the area”.
The restrictions were initially imposed to contain tensions and help maintain law and order in the Binduri area.
While welcoming the return to normalcy, the government has appealed to residents to continue conducting themselves peacefully. “Government continues to urge Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them,” the statement said.
It further encouraged residents to resolve issues without resorting to violence, calling on the public “to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area”.
