The Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has mentioned that his outfit targets to double averagely 40, 000 houses per year by partnering with the private sector.
In efforts to improving the housing system in the country, the Ministry has planned to partner with the private sector to hasten development.
Speaking in an interview with ABC News GH, he revealed that the private sector in Ghana is producing averagely 40, 000 houses per year.
“We have to do better to more housing units, and move from a 40.00 and maybe double that. The way to do it is by reforming the housing sector and by giving the private sector some incentives to make it cheaper and easier for them to build.
“Working with about 28 different stakeholder groups and have come up with a reform package. A PPP Programs with incentives that will support the private sector. So they can build faster an cheaper.”
The Minister is therefore set to present a housing reform in the coming weeks.
” As i’m speaking to you now, we are building about 150 new homes in Tema Community 22 under the National Home Ownership Fund, which will serve other worker groups,” the Minister added.
