Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister-designate, has promised to promote equity in the recruitment process for the Ghana Armed Forces and other security services to ensure regional balance and fairness.
Speaking before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 28, Dr Omane Boamah emphasized the importance of creating an equitable system that addresses geographical disparities during military recruitment and medical assessments.
He highlighted the advantage enjoyed by potential recruits in Accra due to the proximity of 37 Military Hospital.
Omane Boamah, has advised Ghanaians to avoid seeking enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) if they do not meet the requisite qualifications.
He made this appeal when he appeared before the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28.
Dr Omane Boamah, drawing on his experience as a medical professional and his understanding of GAF operations, warned that bypassing proper recruitment procedures could have severe consequences.
He highlighted the rigorous nature of GAF training, which is tailored for individuals who meet the established qualifications.
the Minister-designate has also pledged to improve Ghana’s defence systems to counter the rising threat of terrorism in the West African sub-region.
He outlined his vision for enhancing the country’s security infrastructure, with a particular focus on completing Ghana’s Fractional Orbital Bombardment Systems (FOB).
He also emphasized the importance of vigilance as terrorism escalates in neighboring countries and across West Africa, stressing that emerging threats demand proactive measures to protect the nation.
