The Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament representing Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, John Kumah, has tragically passed away at the age of 45 after a brief illness.

Mr. Kumah’s death occurred on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Although he was expected to participate in the parliamentary debate on the Budget later that week, he had traveled to his constituency, Ejisu, to mark the Independence anniversary.

Unfortunately, his health took a turn for the worse during this visit. Despite efforts to transport him to Accra for medical attention, his condition deteriorated rapidly en route. The ambulance carrying him was redirected to the Suhum Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His body has been transferred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. Mr. Kumah is survived by his wife, Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, and their six children.

The passing of Deputy Minister Kumah is a significant loss, not only to his family but also to the nation. His dedication to public service and contributions as a member of Parliament will be fondly remembered.

May his soul rest in peace.

Biography: Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah

Popularly known as Lawyer John Kumah among his constituents, he was highly esteemed for his integrity and dedication to advancing job opportunities and inspiring hope for a better future in Ejisu, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Before his foray into politics, John Kumah established himself as the founding Managing Director of Majak Associates Ltd. a construction firm engaged in projects nationwide.

Upon obtaining his law degree, he founded the Aduaprokye Chambers and served as its Managing Partner until assuming the role of CEO at the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) in 2017.

During his leadership at NEIP, Kumah oversaw the training of 45,000 start-ups over a span of three years through the Presidential Business Support Programme. This initiative led to the creation of numerous employment opportunities for young people across the country.

With a wealth of experience spanning over 17 years, Kumah was recognized for his ingenuity, forward-thinking approach, and effectiveness in fostering job creation, promoting entrepreneurship, and empowering youth development.

His outstanding contributions earned him accolades such as the title of the Most Efficient and Prominent Government Appointee in 2018, as well as inclusion in President Akufo Addo’s list of the top 20 Most Humble and Respectful Appointees in 2019.

As an active member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since 1992, Kumah was deeply involved in grassroots activities, eventually becoming the founding figure of the Young Patriots, a youth political activist group within the NPP. Additionally, he served on the party’s Communication Team.

Demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his constituents in Ejisu, Kumah effectively secured significant funding to execute various infrastructure projects and initiatives aimed at generating employment opportunities within the constituency.
