President-elect John Dramani Mahama has vowed to make the resolution of the ongoing conflict in Bawku a top priority of his administration.
During a meeting with the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Mahama emphasized the need for a sustainable and inclusive peace process to address the long-standing ethnic and chieftaincy disputes in the Upper East Region.
These disputes have resulted in significant loss of life, displacement, and disruption to the local economy.
The conflict, which has seen periodic flare-ups over the years, escalated in recent months, prompting calls for urgent intervention from local leaders and international observers.
Mahama’s commitment to resolving the crisis signals his administration’s focus on enhancing peace and security in conflict-prone regions.
He has pledged to engage all relevant stakeholders to ensure lasting peace in Bawku and its surrounding areas.
