Private legal practitioner Yaw Danquah has called for the recusal of Supreme Court Justices Yoni Kulendi and Asiedu, as well as lawyer Thaddeus Sory, from the ongoing committee probing petitions for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Speaking to ABC News Ghana, Mr. Danquah referenced newly surfaced CCTV footage that captured the trio exchanging pleasantries at a restaurant, suggesting that their continued participation in the committee proceedings could cast doubt on the credibility of the process.
“Whether or not it was coincidental, perception matters. It’s in the interest of fairness and transparency that they step aside,” Danquah insisted.
He stressed that while the footage may not directly tie into the subject matter before the committee, the optics risk undermining public confidence. “This is not about guilt or innocence,” Danquah said.
“It’s about maintaining the integrity of a very sensitive constitutional process.” His remarks have ignited a wave of commentary on the impartiality of judicial officers involved in politically sensitive matters, especially when questions of ethics and independence are at stake.
