Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has called for a shift toward respectful and idea-driven political discourse as Ghana approaches the December elections.
He stressed the importance of constructive dialogue stating, “Election is a battle of ideas. We must rid our political landscape of insults and respect each other.”
His remarks came while expressing his support for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Kufuor expressed strong confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s capabilities, particularly in economic management. He praised Bawumia’s past collaboration with the Bank of Ghana, noting his significant role in stabilizing the local currency.
“I have observed his remarkable abilities in economic enhancement during my tenure, as he was integral to the Bank of Ghana’s team under Governor Dr. Paul Acquah,” Kufuor recalled.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, November 17, Kufuor urged the public to vote for Dr. Bawumia, emphasizing his potential to transform the economy and accelerate development.
He highlighted that, given the current global economic challenges, experienced and innovative leadership would be crucial for national recovery.
“I firmly believe that Ghana’s economy will see significant progress if Bawumia is elected as President,” Kufuor said, adding that with divine guidance, Bawumia is well-positioned to fulfill this promise. He called on Ghanaians to back candidates who prioritize solutions and growth for the nation.
