Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Kwadwo Poku, Kofi Konadu Apraku, and Joe Ghartey are among the aspirants who have failed to qualify for next phase of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential race in November 2023.
Those among the five to be shortlisted are Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ken Agyapong, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
The outcome of the election which saw Mr. Agyapong garner over 130 votes to place second and pull past Alan Kyerematen came as a surprise to many, contrary to research surveys conducted by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) which projected Alan to rub shoulders with the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, for the top spot.
Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh secured nine (9) votes each in the NPP presidential race organised on Saturday to shortlist five candidates for the ultimate on November 4, 2023.
The nine votes each means a tie at the 5th position.
The Elections Committee of the NPP has therefore decided that there will be a run-off between the two – Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai Nimoh next Saturday, September 2, 2023.
