John Dramani Mahama has officially been sworn in as the 6th President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
Mahama, who previously served as the country’s 4th President, emerged victorious in the 2024 presidential race, securing a decisive win.
His victory brings a shift in power, ending the New Patriotic Party’s (NPPs) eight-year governance and ushering in a new era of leadership under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), following their loss in the 2016 elections.
The inauguration held today at the historic Black Star Square in Ghana was attended by a distinguished array of local and international leaders, former officials, government representatives, leaders of non-governmental organizations, party executives, and party supporters, among others.

During his speech as the Special Guest of Honor, President Tinubu expressed his admiration for Mahama, stating, “Your new president is a patriotic man, he loves his nation. No one can ask more from a leader than that.”
He also pledged Nigeria’s unwavering support, assuring, “You know you can count on our (Nigeria) support at any time.”
In his address after being inaugurated, President Mahama emphasized his commitment to economic reforms, including a fair taxation system, declaring, “Ghana is back to business again.”
He thanked the Ghanaian people for their trust, assuring them that their vote would lead to meaningful change in the nation’s future.
He also reaffirmed his government’s focus on strengthening public health systems to minimize future pandemics.
