Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, is set to assume the role of Majority Leader in the 9th Parliament.
This move follows the nomination of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the outgoing Majority Leader, as the Minister for Finance-designate by President John Mahama.
Ayariga, a seasoned lawyer and politician, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served in various high-profile positions under previous administrations, including Minister of Information and Media Relations and Minister of Youth and Sports.
Ayariga’s appointment to the Majority Leader position marks a new chapter for the legislature. Known for his strong leadership skills and political acumen, he replaces Dr. Forson, whose new role in government leaves the Majority Leader position vacant.
The Bawku Central legislator’s rise to the position comes as part of President Mahama’s broader political reshuffle, which stresses the importance of strategic leadership as the country faces complex economic challenges, especially with the appointment of Dr. Forson as Finance Minister.
Born on May 24, 1974, Ayariga has had a remarkable career in both law and politics.
With an academic background that includes a Master of Law from Harvard Law School, he has been a key figure in Ghana’s political scene since his first election to Parliament in 2005.
His tenure in government, coupled with his leadership in human rights advocacy through the Legal Resources Centre, positions him as an ideal candidate to steer the majority in Parliament as the country navigates its political and economic future.
