President John Dramani Mahama has nominated 72 individuals for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE), pending approval from their respective District Assemblies.
The nominations were announced in a statement issued on March 26 by the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim. According to the statement, the appointments align with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Article 20(1) of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936).
The nominees are distributed across several regions, with the Volta Region receiving the highest number at 18. The Oti Region has 9 nominees, Ahafo Region 6, Bono Region 10, Bono East Region 9, Savannah Region 5, North East Region 6, and Western North Region 9. These nominations reflect the government’s efforts to ensure effective local governance and development across the country.
The nominated individuals will now undergo vetting and confirmation by their respective District Assemblies as mandated by law. The process is expected to ensure that qualified and competent leaders take up the roles to drive local development in their districts.
