The Kusaug Peoples Congress has accused President John Dramani Mahama of lacking sincerity in addressing the protracted Bawku conflict.
According to the President of the group, Prof. John Azumah, the president has either failed to grasp the gravity of the situation or is simply not committed to resolving it.
“The president is either not sincere or incompetent in addressing the conflict,” Prof. Azumah stated during an interview on ABC in the Morning.
This accusation comes in the wake of renewed violence believed to be linked to the conflict. Recent incidents include the shooting of the Kusasi Chief and the killing of a man at Asawase in the Ashanti Region.
Last Saturday evening, two students of Bawku Senior High School were reportedly shot on campus, further intensifying public concern over the deteriorating security situation in the region.
In response, the government has imposed a 2:00 PM to 6:00 AM curfew on Nalerigu and its surrounding areas and has also evacuated all students from both Bawku SHS and Nalerigu SHS as a safety measure.
However, the Kusaug Peoples Congress insists that the government’s reactive approach and the President’s silence reflect a broader failure of leadership and commitment to ending the violence.
