Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, has been recalled from his diplomatic post with immediate effect following President John Dramani Mahama directive.
The announcement was made in a press statement issued on Saturday, February 7, and signed by Minister of Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu. The recall follows Baba Jamal’s participation in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency, where he emerged victorious.
In a closely contested race, Baba Jamal secured 431 votes, narrowly defeating Hajia Amina Adam, who garnered 399 votes.
While several candidates face allegations of vote inducement, President Mahama noted that Baba Jamal was the only serving public officer involved in the contest.
Meanwhile, the NDC has initiated its own investigations into the matter, the President stressed the need for immediate action to maintain the integrity of public office and ensure adherence to the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has been tasked with completing all necessary diplomatic and administrative procedures to effect the recall.
