President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in the new leadership for three key security institutions: the Ghana National Fire Service, the Prisons Service, and the Ghana Immigration Service.
This development marks a renewed focus on efficiency, discipline, and improved service delivery in Ghana’s law enforcement framework.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Jubilee House on Monday, March 17, saw DDGP 3 Patience Baffoe-Bonnie take the helm of the Ghana Prisons Service, DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong assume leadership of the Ghana National Fire Service, and DCI Samuel Basentale Amadu appointed as the new Comptroller General of the Ghana Immigration Service.
This reshuffle follows the recent appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police, replacing IGP George Akuffo-Dampare, who had led the Ghana Police Service since 2021 under former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The leadership changes are part of ongoing efforts to implement critical reforms and enhance security operations across the country.
A Call for Leadership, Reform, and Integrity
In his address, President Mahama stressed the critical role these agencies play in ensuring public safety, economic stability, and justice. He emphasized that security services must go beyond enforcing laws to uphold human dignity and facilitate justice.
“Our security services are not just enforcers of the law; they are protectors of human dignity, facilitators of justice, and guarantors of national stability. Without their unwavering commitment, businesses cannot thrive, and institutions cannot function effectively,” Mahama declared.
He further stressed that leadership in the security sector demands courage, discipline, respect for human rights, and an unwavering commitment to service. He charged the newly appointed leaders to uphold the principles of fairness, professionalism, and integrity in their duties.
“As you assume these high offices, I trust that you will build on past successes and implement the much-needed reforms that will propel our institutions into a new era of effectiveness and accountability.”
