Isaac Adongo, a Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee, has stated that John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will not debate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to revive Bawumia’s perceived failing career.
Adongo criticized Bawumia’s tenure as Vice President, citing his perceived dishonesty and incompetence as reasons for his lack of credibility.
This statement comes in response to the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who recently challenged Mahama to a debate with Bawumia.
Afenyo-Markin argued that such a debate would provide Mahama with an opportunity to highlight the government’s shortcomings.
However, during an interview, Adongo dismissed the idea, asserting that Bawumia’s failure as Vice President disqualifies him from such a platform.
Adongo further questioned President Akufo-Addo’s decision to avoid debating Mahama in the 2020 elections, suggesting it might have been due to a lack of preparation or fear of being exposed.
He challenged Bawumia to engage with the press, as Mahama has done, to account for his actions instead of seeking a debate as a means to rehabilitate his career.
“In 2020, was it because Akufo-Addo was clueless, was it because Akufo-Addo was insulting? Why wasn’t Akufo-Addo prepared to meet John Mahama in a debate in 2020? And now you are calling for a debate after you’ve messed up your career, you want to use John Mahama to resurrect your career,” Adongo stated.
