Senior Lecturer and Political Scientist at the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Dr. Samuel Afriyie, has described calls by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority Caucus for the annulment of the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary results as hypocritical, arguing that vote buying is a practice many within the caucus are themselves guilty of.
Speaking on ABC In The Morning on Monday, February 9, 2026, Dr. Afriyie said the Majority Caucus lacks the moral authority to demand the cancellation of the primary over allegations of vote buying.
“It is hypocrisy on the side of the Majority Caucus to call for the annulment of the Ayawaso East NDC primary results; they are all guilty of vote buying,” he stated.
Dr. Afriyie further suggested that the developments surrounding the Ayawaso East primary point to possible political victimization, particularly against Baba Jamal.
“There seem to be some form of political victimization against Baba Jamal in the NDC,” he said during the discussion.
According to the political scientist, the party’s response to the alleged irregularities raises questions about consistency and fairness in how internal electoral issues are addressed.
His comments come amid heightened tensions within the NDC following allegations of vote buying during the Ayawaso East primary, which have sparked public debate and calls for sanctions against individuals found culpable.
