A military helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, with initial reports suggesting some passengers may have been burnt to death.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, but details remain sketchy as emergency response teams move swiftly to the crash site.
In a statement, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that a Z-9 helicopter, which took off on Wednesday morning and was en route to Obuasi, had gone off radar shortly after departure.
“A helicopter, identified as a Z-9, has reportedly gone off the radar after taking off on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025,” the statement read.
The aircraft was carrying eight individuals in total—three crew members and five passengers—but their identities have not been disclosed.
Efforts are ongoing to trace the wreckage and establish full communication.
“The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that efforts are underway to trace the missing helicopter and re-establish communication,” the statement added.
Authorities, including the GAF and other emergency agencies, are expected to provide further details as investigations continue.
