The Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi and minority spokesperson on economy, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has stated that the minority in Parliament will accept the 2025 budget, even if the majority fails to make the necessary amendments.
In an interview with ABC News Gh, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah explained that while the majority is not an obstructive force hindering their work, it would be beneficial for them to make the amendments so that the minority can recognize that they are supporting a positive initiative.
“Whether they correct it or not, we will support it.”
“We are not an obstructive minority to be obstructing their work.”
“But it will be better if they make the corrections so what we are supporting is good,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has advised the majority in Parliament to first establish a clear connection between their manifesto and the policies outlined in their budget.
He further pointed out that it appears the majority has neglected their manifesto, noting that out of approximately 68 economic promises in their manifesto, only 25—about 30%—were addressed in their first budget.
He also suggested that they should reallocate funds from the Office of Government Machinery to the economic sector.
“They should try and build a bridge of coherence between the manifesto and the policy they brought. its like they’ve already abandon their manifesto.”
He also added that the ruling government “should change the locations and move the monies from the office of government machinery to the economic sectors.”
