Despite Ghana’s commanding victories over Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Boamah has urged the Black Stars to push for a higher FIFA ranking.
Ghana, currently placed 77th in the world, endured a challenging period prior to the qualifiers, struggling through six consecutive winless matches, including a disappointing AFCON campaign. However, the team responded with a strong statement, thrashing Chad 5-0 and following up with a 3-0 triumph over Madagascar.
These wins have placed the Black Stars at the summit of Group I with 15 points, five clear of Madagascar.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Boamah stressed that Ghana must reclaim its rightful place among football’s elite.
“The Black Stars are ranked 77th on the FIFA ranking, and that is not where we are supposed to be,” he stated.
“If you know where we as a country want our national team to be, we want our national team to be at the levels that took us to the last eight in 2010. That is where we want our national team to be.”
Ghana will resume its qualifying campaign in September with matches against Chad and Mali before taking on the Central African Republic and Comoros.
With World Cup qualification in sight, the Black Stars will also be looking to climb the FIFA rankings and re-establish themselves as one of Africa’s top footballing nations.
