MTN Mobile Money (MoMo), Ghana’s largest mobile money service, will go offline nationwide for six hours on Sunday, August 17, 2025, to carry out a critical system upgrade.
The downtime, scheduled from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., will affect all MoMo services including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and merchant payments.
The move is expected to impact millions of users who depend on the platform as their primary means of financial transactions.
Confirming the development, Charles Asamoah Assah, Chief Technology & Service Delivery Officer of Mobile Money Limited, said the temporary outage is necessary to enhance the platform’s performance and security.
“Please be informed of a planned system upgrade on 17th August 2025, from 12 midnight to 6 a.m. During this period, all Mobile Money services will be unavailable.
This upgrade is to improve our services to you. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding,” he told Citi FM.
MTN Ghana says the upgrade will improve transaction speeds, bolster anti-fraud security measures, and pave the way for future digital innovations.
Customers have been advised to complete all urgent transactions before the scheduled downtime.
The company assured users that their funds will remain secure during the maintenance period, and services will resume immediately after the upgrade.
