A former government spokesperson, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has formally announced his intention to contest for the position of National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing growing calls from party grassroots and supporters.
In a statement titled “Response to a Clarion Call,” Abdul-Hamid said he had received persistent appeals from party members urging him to bring his experience and strategic insight to the national executive level.

“The rank and file have sent out a clarion call to me… I have listened,” he stated, confirming that he will officially contest when nominations open.
Abdul-Hamid emphasized that his decision is not driven by personal ambition but by a commitment to serve and contribute to the rebuilding of the party. He highlighted his long-standing involvement in the NPP, dating back to its formation in 1992, when he was among the founding members of its University of Cape Coast branch.
Recounting his political journey, he noted his participation in key moments of the party’s history, including the symbolic transition from the Danquah-Busia tradition to the NPP. He also outlined his previous attempts at national roles, including bids for National Organizer in 2001 and General Secretary in 2005.
Abdul-Hamid further pointed to his decade-long service as spokesperson for former President Nana Akufo-Addo and his role as Deputy National Campaign Manager during the 2020 elections as evidence of his experience and commitment.
Describing himself as “a scholar in the true sense of the word,” he expressed confidence in his intellectual capacity to support the party’s leadership and contribute to strategic direction.
He concluded with a call for unity and renewal within the NPP, urging members to work collectively to restore the party’s leadership standing.
“Together, we shall re-strategize, rebuild and reorganize… The battle to recover our nation begins from within,” he said.
His declaration is expected to add momentum to what is shaping up to be a competitive race for key national executive positions within the party.
