Tamale South Member of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed his long-term presidential ambitions while expressing confidence in President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s ability to tackle Ghana’s economic challenges.
Speaking on TV3 on Friday, December 13, Haruna stated, “My eye is on the ball but I don’t know about tomorrow,” when asked about his aspirations for the presidency. The seasoned politician, recently reelected in the 2024 general election, hinted at his future aspirations while remaining focused on supporting Mahama’s administration.
Earlier, addressing journalists in Accra on Monday, December 9, Haruna Iddrisu acknowledged the daunting economic crisis inherited by Mahama from the outgoing Akufo-Addo administration. “We cannot take the people for granted; Ghanaians say, ‘If you fail us, we will fail you tomorrow,’” he remarked.
Echoing similar sentiments, Mahama admitted that the journey ahead would be tough but emphasized his commitment to governance reforms. “We will implement governance reforms. The journey is not going to be easy because the outgoing government has plunged the nation into an abyss,” Mahama said, urging Ghanaians to remain hopeful and united.
Haruna, a key ally of the president-elect, expressed confidence in Mahama’s leadership, stating, “President Mahama inherited a difficult economy, but he will weather the storm.” Both leaders stressed the importance of unity, with Mahama concluding, “The one we serve is Mother Ghana.”
