The Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has made it clear that the administration of President John Dramani Mahama will not allocate public funds toward the construction of the controversial National Cathedral.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, April 8, Kwakye Ofosu described the project as a “worthless hole,” asserting that state resources will not be wasted on it.
“The monies invested in that has been wasted,” he stated bluntly, adding that while the government will not continue to fund the initiative, private individuals and churches who still believe in the vision are welcome to proceed with the project at their own expense.
His comments underscore the administration’s intention to redirect national resources toward pressing development priorities.
In the same interview, Kwakye Ofosu addressed public concern over the absence of Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang from recent public engagements.
He assured Ghanaians that the Vice President is in good health and currently in the United Kingdom for a short medical rest. “She is currently in good health and taking a short rest as advised by her doctors, and in short order, she should be back to her duties,” he said.
His remarks echoed similar reassurances made earlier by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who had also dismissed rumours surrounding her health.
