The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is currently awaiting the outcome of a meeting held by its functional executive committee, which will decide on the next steps regarding the party’s petition for a forensic audit and re-exhibition of the voters register.
This development follows the Electoral Commission’s (EC) recent rejection of the NDC’s request, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the main opposition party and the electoral body.
In a statement addressing the EC’s response, the commission emphasized its commitment to resolving discrepancies identified in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR).
The EC reassured the NDC and the general public that it had effectively addressed similar issues in the 2020 elections and plans to continue this trend in the upcoming 2024 elections.
This assertion, however, has not alleviated the concerns raised by the NDC regarding electoral integrity.
Speaking to ABC News GH on Friday, Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, expressed skepticism about the EC’s approach to digitizing voter registration checks.
He pointed out that many individuals in rural areas are not comfortable with internet usage and prefer traditional methods of verifying their names in the voters register.
The NDC’s ongoing deliberations seek to address these critical issues in the electoral process as the nation approaches its next election cycle.
