The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced the release of an additional GHC135.6 million to healthcare providers across Ghana.
This disbursement aims to settle outstanding claims for February 2024 at higher-tier healthcare providers and March 2024 at lower-tier facilities, bridging the payment gap between different tiers.
The NHIA emphasizes that this funding ensures outstanding claims are kept within the agreed three-month reimbursable period. The recent GHC135.6 million release follows an earlier disbursement of GHC300 million, demonstrating NHIA’s commitment to sustainable and efficient healthcare delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
In a press statement, Acting Chief Executive Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye expressed gratitude to healthcare providers for their dedication and reiterated NHIA’s pledge to maintain strong partnerships without compromising on illegal charges. He assured stakeholders that the NHIA would continue to address concerns and work towards a robust healthcare system.

NHIA Releases Additional GHC 135.6Million to Healthcare Providers Nationwide
Accra, 14 July 2024 – The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is pleased to announce the release of an additional GHC135.6million to healthcare providers across the country. This disbursement is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of healthcare delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
This funding is aimed at settling outstanding claims of February 2024 for the higher tier healthcare providers and March 2024 for the majority of our clients at the lower tier facilities. It is also aimed at closing the gap between the higher tier and lower tier facility payments so that the only outstandings of the Authority would be within the three-month reimbursable agreed period with facilities.
This additional funding of GHC135.6 million was released in July, following an earlier release of GHC300 million by the Authority to mix tier health facilities across the country.
The NHIA recognizes the critical role that healthcare providers play in the success of the NHIS and is dedicated to maintaining a robust partnership with facilities without compromising on illegal charges.
We thank all healthcare providers for their continued dedication and support in providing excellent healthcare services to our citizens. The NHIA will continue to engage with stakeholders to address any concerns and work towards a sustainable and efficient healthcare system.
……Signed…….
Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye
Ag. Chief Executive, NHIA.
