Political Analyst Dr. Samuel Afriyie has commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for granting amnesty to former members but cautioned that the move alone will not be sufficient to rebuild trust with defectors.
He explained that many who left the party did so because of unresolved grievances, and simply offering amnesty without addressing those issues may not yield the desired results.
Dr. Afriyie stressed that reintegration requires more than open invitations, pointing to the need for constructive dialogue, reconciliation, and a commitment to healing divisions within the party.
He argued that only by engaging former members in meaningful conversations and acknowledging their concerns can the NPP effectively win them back into the fold.
He further warned that without genuine efforts to mend broken relationships, the party risks repeating past mistakes.
“Simply offering amnesty may not be enough to win back defectors,” he said, urging the NPP to pursue a comprehensive strategy that prioritises unity and long-term stability.
