Dr. Samuel Afriyie, a political analyst, has praised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its effective combination of ideologies, asserting that it is yielding positive results.
Speaking on ABC in the Morning on Wednesday, Dr. Afriyie noted that while traditional party ideologies once strongly defined political identity, today’s electorate is more focused on tangible outcomes.
“The generation of late are not much concerned about the ideologies of these parties. What they want is that, are my needs being met?” he explained.
He explained that while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presents itself as a socialist party, it often operates in ways that resemble capitalist policies.
In contrast, the NPP, which champions a property-owning democracy, has strategically infused its platform with social policies that resonate with public demands.
“The NPP have been smart enough to realize that they need to meet the needs of people by coming out with a lot of social policies. And that is negating the NDC approach of being the socialist,” Dr. Afriyie noted.
This blending of ideological principles, according to Dr. Afriyie, has put the NDC at a disadvantage.
“That is the difficulties the NDC’s are facing now, because you are being branded as a socialist party but you are not being seen coming out with policies that meet the needs of the people,” he stated.
He concluded by emphasizing the NPP’s strategy: “So the NPP is combining two ideologies so that they can manage the resources, and I think that is working for the NPP now.”
