New Patriotic Party’s former parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, has been remanded in custody in Pennsylvania, United States, following an alleged violent domestic incident in which his wife was stabbed.
The Lower Paxton Township Police Department confirmed that the 41-year-old politician was apprehended after the incident, which occurred on the morning of Saturday, January 17, 2026. Authorities were called to a residence along Mayfair Drive in Harrisburg at approximately 10 a.m., where they found a woman suffering multiple stab wounds.
Emergency responders immediately transported the victim to a local hospital. On Monday, police issued an update on her condition, describing it as stable and reassuring the public that the incident was isolated. “The woman was taken to the hospital by first responders and is currently in stable condition,” the statement read. “There was never any threat to the public.”
Investigators spent several hours at the scene collecting forensic evidence. Nortey now faces multiple criminal charges in the U.S., including Criminal Attempt – Homicide, Possessing an Instrument of Crime with Intent to Use, and Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence.
Court records indicate that Nortey was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, who denied bail due to the seriousness of the attempted homicide charge and circumstances surrounding the arrest. Mr. Nortey is currently being held at Dauphin County Prison, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 26, 2026, where a judge will decide whether sufficient evidence exists to proceed to trial in the Court of Common Pleas.
Valentino Nortey rose to national prominence in Ghana during the 2016 and 2020 election cycles. As a former parliamentary candidate for the competitive Klottey Korle constituency, he was considered a rising star in the NPP’s Greater Accra wing and had recognition among the Ghanaian diaspora in the United States.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nortey’s legal team is actively preparing his defense, navigating the complex legal process in the United States as the case continues to draw attention both in Pennsylvania and back home in Ghana.
